Faith’s Class: Term 3 Week 5
Hi families,
It was another wonderfully busy week for the Chatterboxes!
We began the week by diving deeper into our Currents of Care unit and exploring where the water in our waterways comes from. We learnt that, as a result of human development, much of the water entering our waterways comes from rain running through stormwater drains. Unlike wastewater from our bathrooms and kitchens, stormwater is not treated and can carry pollutants such as
rubbish and oil directly into our rivers and oceans.
In English, we continued exploring information reports and their purpose of teaching us factual information. We used an information report about stormwater and wastewater to build our knowledge and practised our comprehension skills by finding facts in the text to answer questions.
Tuesday morning was our whole-school Science Morning for Science Week! The Chatterboxes explored stored energy with Johanna and I by making paper cup rockets powered by rubber bands. With Sarah and Jess, they also investigated the physics of flight by creating paper aeroplanes using straws and strips of paper.
The rest of the week was dedicated to Art Week. Over three days, we rotated through a range of creative stations to produce our very own animation about the Currambena Monster. We experimented with green-screen filming, used Procreate to create backgrounds, made plasticine models and designed our own Currambena Monster zine-comics. It was a hectic few days, but the Chatterboxes loved having the opportunity to completely immerse themselves in their creativity.
Make sure you check out the flyer in the newsletter for Currambena Comic-Con on Sunday! Many of the Chatterboxes’ zines will be on display, along with their animations on film. We are very excited to share all of their hard work!
A quick reminder that the Book Parade is on Monday at 9am! We will also have a Buy-a-Book event on the same day. Families can purchase a book to donate to the school, with your child’s name written inside. They will then get to be the first person to borrow their book from the library.
