Faith’s Class: Term 3 Week 3
Hi families!
What a beautiful week of sunshine we have had! The lovely weather created lots of opportunities for outdoor learning which was a really nice change.
As part of our Currents of Care unit, we continued exploring the important people who make up our community. We discussed the many different ways people care for and contribute to our community, before creating small profiles about these community members to display in our classroom. We have also been extending our learning into our water focus, exploring the playground to identify things that rely on water to work or grow.
In Maths, we wrapped up our focus on Mass. The Chatterboxes worked in groups of three to heft and organise classroom objects from lightest to heaviest. They then collaborated as a whole class to arrange all of the objects along the carpet in order. We discovered that our small Tasmanian Devil toy was the heaviest item, while the balloon was the lightest, even though it was one of the larger objects!
Our Elders have begun researching using Chromebooks and are continuing to develop their time management skills as they become more familiar with the PIP process. The Juniors have continued working on their Insect GIP. This week, they explored the playground and captured photos of the bugs they discovered. The group reflected that, due to the time of year, finding insects was quite challenging as many were hiding in warmer places. However, they still managed to find worms, a slug, a spider and a small caterpillar. We also watched an ABC short about Honeypot Ants to begin developing our research skills. The Juniors practised listening carefully and identifying interesting and important facts.
A fun addition to our afternoons has been our afternoon reading. A few Chatterboxes expressed an interest in sharing their favourite books with the class, so we created a weekly sign-up sheet for anyone who would like to read a book of their choice for five minutes at the end of the day. This is a great opportunity for students to practise reading aloud, focusing on fluency, expression, pace and voice projection. We have already had some fantastic readers share this week, and the class have been wonderful, respectful audience members.
A big thank you to everyone who helped make Soup Day such a success. The Chatterboxes enjoyed a lovely Friday afternoon with the rest of the school, sharing bowls of delicious soup and spending quality time together as a community.
