Faith’s Class: Term 2 Week 7

Happy Week 7 everyone,

This week, the Chatterboxes headed to the local tennis courts for a range of activities focused on cardio fitness, reflex development and hand–eye coordination. It was fantastic to see everyone participating and giving it their absolute best!

In ‘Bright Lights, Big Sounds’ we continued exploring the behaviour of light energy. One of the highlights of the week was our shadow puppet performances. In pairs, the Chatterboxes retold scenes from The Great Race by Ling and Eric Lee using puppets and a lamp.

They discovered how changing the distance between the puppet and the light could make characters appear larger or smaller, bringing the scenes to life. We also extended our understanding of narrative by introducing the idea of a “plot mountain.” We used this structure to explore how stories build tension and lead to a resolution. To support this learning, each student selected a scene from The Great Race, drew it, and worked to
sequence it correctly along the plot mountain.

Later in the week we also created beautiful painted displays for our classroom, showing the different behaviours of light energy, including reflection, refraction, absorption and dispersion. These artworks are helping us to build a strong visual understanding of our learning and look really great in our room.

In Maths, we continued working with place value through our “place value houses.” Students participated in a sorting game where they had to work as a team to correctly organise themselves into hundreds, tens and ones. This hands-on activity helped strengthen their understanding of how numbers are built and was a great way to visually consolidate their learning.

It has been a wonderful week of learning and creativity and I think the sunshine was the icing on the cake!
