Faith’s Class: Term 2 Week 3

Happy Week Three!

This week, The Chatterboxes had a fantastic time participating in Pickleball at the new Galuwa Recreation Centre in Lane Cove. With lots of courts available, every student was able to play at the same time and everyone had plenty of opportunities to practise and improve their skills. They got to practice important foundational movement skills including hand-eye coordination, swinging, footwork and balance. These skills will continue to support our learning later in the term as we move into tennis and basketball. It was wonderful to see every student participate enthusiastically and give their very best effort.

In our integrated unit, we continued exploring how sound travels through matter by creating cup-and-string phones. The experiment conceptualised how sound moves in waves by pushing particles together in matter (in this case the string), which our ears then interpret as sound. During our text study of Oh No! by Candace Fleming, students explored onomatopoeia and how words can be created to phonetically represent sounds. We enjoyed a listening activity where students matched the onomatopoeic words in the story to the animals that made them.

In PDHPE, we discussed “personal bubbles” and how everyone has different personal space needs that should be respected. Students reflected on different situations that can change the size of our personal bubbles and created their own diagrams to identify who and what they allow into each space.

In Mathematics, we explored “-teen” and “-ty” numbers, learning how they are written both numerically and in words. Students investigated what the suffixes “-teen” and “-ty” mean and played bingo games to reinforce their understanding.

The “Chatterboxes” continue to impress me every day. I am so proud of how well they are working together and how engaged they are so early in the term!

Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend!

From,
