Faith’s Class: Term 2 Week 2

This week, the ‘Chatterboxes’ got to jump right back into sport starting with soccer at Pottery Green. There is such a variety this term and lots of opportunity to try out different sports, with pickleball scheduled for next week at the new Galuwa centre.

Literacy stations are up and running and the class has quickly and confidently settled back into the routine. It has been particularly rewarding to listen to each student read and I look forward to seeing their individual progress.

In PDHPE, we began our conflict resolution course. We started with a focus on protective behaviours to help students understand how to listen to their bodies in different situations. We also revisited prior learning about emotions, exploring how to identify and manage them effectively in different situations.

Our integrated unit has continued to deepen students’ understanding of the science of sound. Students experimented with creating sounds using materials found around the school, discovering the many ways sound can be produced. They then combined these sounds with different beats to create music.

We extended this exploration into science by investigating what sound is and questioning whether it can be seen. Using a sound analyser, students visualised sound waves created by their voices and various materials, and analysed differences in pitch and volume.!
