Faith’s Class: Term 2 Week 1

Happy Term 2 everyone!

I hope everyone had a lovely holiday. We’ve had such a fun week settling in as the newly minted ‘Chatterboxes’. On Tuesday we focused on setting up our classroom (including welcoming some new fish friends in our tank!) and discussing what lays ahead for the rest of the term. We voted on our new name and created a class garden full of creepy crawlies and colourful flowers.

We dove straight into our Literacy with holiday recounts, revisiting key text features and flexing our writing skills. I was so impressed by everyone’s beautiful handwriting and confidence in spelling.

We also launched our unit ‘Bright Lights and Big Sounds’, exploring light and sound through history. This unit will see us explore enduring Indigenous culture and practices (with a focus on the Darug/Dharug nation), Ancient China, Greece and Egypt. Students listened carefully to sounds around the school, categorised them and created artworks inspired by what they heard. We then created a poster about what we already know and what we want to know in this unit, which will help guide our learning for the term.

Our Elders have begun their PIPs and are off to a great start. Our Juniors meanwhile extended their exploration with sound through creative activities that focused on supporting oral language development.

In Maths, we began extending our understanding of how to represent whole numbers. Using 10 as our reference point, students identified examples from our classroom environment and used these to record, compare and discuss quantities that were greater than, less than, or equal to 10.

A reminder that Monday is Public Holiday so school will be back on Tuesday, our first sports day for the term! Please remember to pack hats, water bottles and wear appropriate footwear.
