Currambena School Council Update

August 2026

First of all, apologies for the delay in sharing this Council update! The past few weeks have been particularly busy, both personally and around school, so this one took a little longer than planned. Thanks for your patience!

Our August Council meeting was held on Monday 3 August and was a long one, finishing at 9:40pm. A large part of the meeting was spent discussing in-camera matters. These are confidential discussions, so we aren’t able to share the details, but we can share the key updates and decisions from the rest of the meeting.

A few things happening around Currambena

The school fence – and a chance for students to have their say!

The Landscaping Committee is continuing to work on the new fence plans. The next step is to shortlist some colour options and then invite students to vote on the final colour. The fence plans will also be printed and displayed on the noticeboard so families can have
a look.

Playgroup

Council approved the engagement of Valentina through the WOW Project for Term 3. Council is also looking into funding opportunities to help support Playgroup.

Preschool

Council discussed the Preschool Director’s report, including some changes to how financial responsibilities and policies are supported.

Staff and community surveys

Council has received the findings from the recent staff and community surveys. A small group of Council members will now review the feedback and develop recommendations to bring back to Council. We want to make sure that when we share the results with the
community, we don’t just say “we heard you” — we want to show what we heard, what has already been done, and what we plan to do next. The findings will be shared with the community before the end of the term.

Maintenance around the school

Council discussed a number of maintenance matters, including the kiln quote, replacement of an air-conditioning unit, locksmith works and the planned repointing works. Some of these projects have already been approved and budgeted for and will now move forward.

Council also agreed to re-advertise the Maintenance Coordinator position and start recruitment.

Looking ahead

Council also continued work on the Currambena Constitution review, including exploring ways to make participation in future constitutional voting easier. We are looking into online voting options that could make it simpler for more members of our community to take part.

Our next Council meeting is scheduled for Thursday 10 September.
