Amelia’s group week 1 term 3

Hi everyone,

It was lovely to see everyone again this week! The children were full of energy and proved challenging to keep up with all the excitement!

This week we mainly spent our time settling back in, reflecting on our time away, and connecting with our peers. On Thursday, the elders begun brainstorming their ideas for this term’s PIPs, and our juniors started their new topic on ‘Insects’. With the juniors, we will be creating a GIP, or a Group Interest Project, so that we can all work together during this session as one big group along with Archana’s support.

We also started our next unit of discovery about ‘Natural Disasters’. We are still brainstorming a fun and attention-grabbing name for this unit, so if you come up with any ideas at home, please pass them on! We started by exploring what we already know about Natural Disasters and what we would like to know. The children had a fantastic range of questions that will inform our lessons throughout the term. Next week we will look more into earthquakes.

On Friday, we had our incursion to finish off our Space Explorers unit. We had a fantastic inflatable planetarium squash into the classroom (just), and with Sarah’s group they explored the rotation of the sun, the constellations, Indigenous stories explaining the relationship between the sun and moon, and a mini movie flying onto each planet in our solar system. The kids seemed to really enjoy the session and it was a beautiful end to our unit of work.

Next Monday, the children will have their first music lesson with a new teacher, which we were very fortunate to organise so quickly for the term ahead!
