Amelia’s Group Week 7 Term 3
Hi everyone,
I hope you are all enjoying the sunshine and warmer weather, I know I am!
This week we finished off our lesson on tornadoes and cyclones by comparing the key differences in a venn diagram, and making our own cyclone in a bottle. The children had a lot fun adding food colouring, glitter, and debris such as leaves or stones to their bottle. When they manipulated the bottles and rotated them in a circular manner, we watched the debris get picked up and transported around. As simple as this activity was, the children absolutely adored it and found it fascinating how simply we could create a vortex with few materials.
In maths, we have been focusing heavily on addition and subtraction strategies. I have been incredibly impressed with the children as we have covered quite a few complex ideas that can be challenging to grasp. So far we have covered doubling, doubling plus one, the jump strategy, and the split strategy. Moving forward, we will be looking at the inverse strategy before moving on to multiplication and division.
Next Wednesday, the children have voted to have Summerhill Day. I am looking forward to seeing the range of activity options and particularly any sessions that the children choose to run themselves.
Nate will also be coming in on Tuesday to do basketball with our class!
