Amelia’s Group Term 3 Week 1
Welcome back everyone!
I hope you had a lovely break and were able to spend some time with the family, your friends and your relatives.
The energy has been through the roof upon the children’s return this week and it is always nice to see the excited reconnecting with friends. We also had a new starter in the group, Beni, who the children welcomed in with excited chatter and play. Welcome Beni!
We got back into the full swing of our weekly routine and started our new units for the term. We begun looking at area by trying to measure various shapes with objects such as leaves, unifix cubes, playing cards, and dominoes. We discussed why our measurements were not accurate as seen in the gaps and overlaps because of the size of our measurement objects, their shapes and lines, and the difficulty in measuring a curved shape with an object like a domino!
The elders reflect on their PIP work from last term and begun choosing groups and brainstorming topics for the term ahead. They are already acting like pros, discussing, negotiating and choosing their topics with haste!
Susan and I introduced our new joint integrated unit called ‘Brilliant Bodies’. The children drew and labelled all the parts of the human body and their functions that they currently know about such as ‘eyes can see’ and ‘brains help us think and control our bodies’. At the end of the term the children will repeat this activity in groups to show how much more they have learnt over the course of the unit. We also wrote up a list of questions we would like answered such as ‘why do we dream?’ or ‘what is the purpose of the appendix in different animals?’.
A reminder for next Monday, it will be our first library session in the afternoon and we will be starting our first DJ session with Otto and Dash’s dad Nate!
Have a lovely weekend everyone!
