Amelia’s group Term 2 Week 9
Hi everyone,
I hope you are all doing well. It has been such a busy term and I can’t believe that we are almost at the end! This week we have done a lot of work on two dimensional shapes including an activity based on the book ‘Shapes of Australia’ by Bronwyn Bancroft, an Aboriginal author. It shows beautiful landscapes in Australia using a collection of quadrilaterals or polygons and bright vibrant colours. The children created their own landscapes with oil pastels using a few chosen 2D shapes on black paper. On Thursday we focused more closely on some polygons including pentagons, hexagons and octagons and made connections between PENtagons and 5 fingers holding a PENcil, that bees have 6 legs and their hives are made of hexagons, and octopuses have 8 tentacles like the sides of an octagon. Catalina helped to name our octopus octagons ‘Octagonopuses’!
On Thursday ours and Jess’ classes begun building our class city. It is well underway with a range of landmarks and structures such as lighthouses, elevators, bridges, carparks, skyscrapers, castles, and ferris wheels. The children are very engaged with this final task to our unit ‘All Around the World’ and we can’t wait to see the completed city the children work together to construct.
