Amelia’s Class Week 6 Term 3

Hi everyone,

I hope you have all been enjoying the warmer days and getting outside in the sunshine! As the weather is starting to heat up and the UV is climbing up to 5 or more, please remember to start applying sunscreen at home before school, packing a wide-brim hat (these are better than caps!), and reminding the children to drink plenty of water throughout the day. We are a sun-safe school and ask children to wear hats when outside during break times and when leaving the school grounds. As the heat increases, we will also start reminding children to reapply sunscreen at lunchtime.

This week has been beautifully busy with a number of fantastic activities as part of Art Week and ‘Wear It Purple Day’ on Friday. During Craft time, the children got to learn how to use spray-paint and design and use stencils. It was incredibly engaging and a number of designs have been added around the school grounds, namely the preschool fence, the lower playground fence, and the handball court. Make sure you come in and have a look!

We also learnt about ‘I-Statements’ and had fun role-playing conflicts using puppets. The children learnt to express what they need by stating ‘I feel…’ followed by naming the situation, ‘when…’, then explaining why they feel this way ‘because…’ and finally stating what they need, ‘I need…’. Using this language, we practised using ‘I-Statements’ for a number of possible conflicts, but also discussed that our ‘I-Statements’ may not always work, and we all have a number of other strategies we can use as well e.g. walking away, taking deep breaths, finding an adult for support etc.

Have a nice weekend everyone!
