Amelia’s Class Week 2 Term 2

Hi everyone,

This week we started our first Soundwaves unit for the term, looking at /g/ spelt with g or gg. We got back into our usual literacy stations on a Monday and Tuesday and the children got right back into the routine with ease.

In Maths, we are looking closer at number and place value, and started using a great resource called ‘Cuisennaire rods‘ to explore a visual representation of numbers up to 10, and to later explore numbers beyond 10.

On Thursday, we had a very enjoyable impromptu performance from a number of elders in our group. Otto coordinated a play with Sophie, Nyra, Oce, Ellie and Grace on the second day of term and performed it for the class this past Thursday. It was so pleasing to see a child-led and child-directed performance that the group clearly enjoyed preparing for and presenting.

The elders began their first PIP on the chromebooks with Archana. The excitement was palpable from the first day of term knowing they had this new experience to look forward to. I am very excited to see what they produce over the term!

We also began our space unit called ‘Space Explorers’ which the children have  also aptly decided to rename our class for the term. We looked at our solar system and the planets neighbouring us and started a poster placing the planets in order from the sun. The children had some fun adding stars and asteroids using posca markers as well.

Next week we are going to the Lane Cove Library so please pack any returns!
