Amelia’s Class Week 10 Term 1

Hi everyone,

One term done and dusted!

This week we finished our final systematic phonic sound for the term, looking at the short vowel sound /o/ spelt with o, a, and occasionally au.

In maths we had one final measurement lesson using centimetres to measure a range of objects around the classroom. This helped us practice using a centimetre ruler more and for some, looking at half a centimetre as well.

We did a ‘small clean’ instead of a ‘big clean’ this term. Amanda worked with the group to go through the magnatiles and throw away some that have started to crack or break, rearrange our toy corner so all of our materials were back in their homes, empty and sort through our bookboxes, and organise the bookshelf. This should all set us up well for a clean and functional classroom for the start of term 2!

We also finished making our recycled rad reptiles. With Amanda, the children finished glueing and constructing their reptiles and then painted them on Thursday afternoon. Unfortunately our construction process took a bit longer than anticipated, so we will present our reptiles and explain their unique features at the beginning of next term. The children also brainstormed a few ideas for what we could explore together next term. Some of the standouts ideas were: Space and the universe, plants and cacti, and viruses and bacteria. I will explore these ideas over the holidays and begin our new topic in the second week of the term.

On Friday, we had a lovely final day listening to our class playlist, eating cupcakes together, and enjoying ‘Ice Age’ with popcorn and our friends from Meg’s class. The very end of the day had a bittersweet feeling as we bid farewell to Marnie. Marnie will be moving on from Currambena so we wish her good luck and all the best at her new school. The children shared some lovely goodbyes for Marnie, which I am sure continued on at the Diddy after school.

Have a beautiful holiday everyone, see you in term 2!
