Art and Craft

Key Points

  • Good Art and Craft facilities
  • Hands-on access for freedom of expression

Art and Craft is an amazing part of Currambena’s life. It starts in the mornings outside pre-school in the dappled sunlight. It continues through to the traditional “leaving group’s” project which is usually a decorative feature for the school. Last year’s group contributed a mosaic under the shade structure. A previous group decorated all the toilet doors - differently. Many of the kids subsequently have their favourite “doors” that they prefer to use! Custom “tile” artworks decorate the wall under the kitchen windows. Any plain surface begs for decoration. The 5 to 7 year old’s desire to build an amazing marble “track” over a metre high was a wonderful opportunity to explore science and engineering concepts as well as teamwork, planning and good communication.

The craft room has many different kinds of equipment, including a pottery wheel, kiln, woodworking equipment, painting, dye (for tie and spray dyeing), and pretty much anything you can think of (except power tools!). Chris is our craft teacher. Seeing how the kids have the hands on freedom to create has been a major decisive factor for more than one prospective parent.
