Class composition
The number of Currambena classes and their composition vary depending on the number and age of the children attending the school in any year. As part of our philosophy we do not emphasise grades and so our classes are known by their teacher’s names.
A class will typically cover 2-3 years and children will move “up” through the classes depending upon their social, emotional and educational readiness. We have small class sizes and each child receives individual attention, so the children can enjoy the benefits of multi-age classes without compromise. Our school council has reduced the maximum number of students in a class to 22 from the 25 stipulated in the original articles of association.
In 2006 our classes are as follows:
* Preschool
* Fran’s class (5 to 7 year olds)
* Olivia’s class (7 to 11 year olds)
* Wendy’s class (10 to 12 year olds)
In addition, students of all ages can continue their day in the same supportive environment at the Currambena After School Program (CASP)
