Playgroup

Just a reminder that the Currambena playgroup meets every Friday.

It is a very casual, relaxed gatheringand open to the wider community as well, if you would like to bring a friend.  It starts around 9.30am and costs $2. Please bring some fruit to share.

Please see the notice board if you would like to volunteer a day in the term to co-ordinate playgroup (setting up toys, cutting fruit, collecting money).

Come along, have a cuppa  and meet some of the parents and kids within this fabulous Currambena community.

Bike racks for Currambena!

What this school needs is a bike rack….You knew something was missing, you just couldn’t put your finger on what it was.

I am in the process of putting the paperwork for school council to get approval for a bike rack. In the meantime there is a great fundraising opportunity to get the money together.

The City of Sydney is sponsoring an event called Super Tuesday.
(http://www.bicyclensw.org.au/content/e-news). It is an event happening around Sydney, and around Australia. The aim is to establish a reliable annual benchmark for bicycle commuting to allow those providing for bike riding to base their judgements on accurate, relevant and up to date information. If you have two hours on the 17th March (7 am to 9 am or 4 pm to 6 pm) to stand at a nominated spot around Lane Cove and count cyclists, then Bicycle NSW will give $50 to your nominated school/bike group or charity.

Yes! Free money. And you get a free green t-shirt too which you don’t need to donate to the school.

If just 5 of us do that we would get the money together for a bike rack – and might even have a little bit over to put towards a staff neck and shoulder massage facility. Not that they need it.

Call me 0410 173 115 if your interested.

Help Needed for the Spare Room

Our spare room (also known as the new staff room; meeting room; and science/maths resource room) is in desparate need of some clearing and sorting and general tidying. It would be wonderful if a few parents could organise our spare room so that it can serve all the purposes that it was intended for. Of course it would go towards your maintenance hours and we would all love you forever. Please come and talk to Olivia for more details.

Breakfast Club at Currambena!

Following on from the great success of our vacation care  (big thank you to casp staff, volunteer helpers, parents and children!) several parents have asked for a breakfast club in casp before school…. Sounds like a great idea!!

We would need volunteer parents to offer to help run it perhaps a day a week with a rota for each term, plus one paid casp staff person.  It would run from 7.30 – 9.30am and cost $10 per child per day to cover food and one paid casp staff – and we would need one volunteer.

If you are interested please sign the sheet on the notice board.

Many thanks

Amba

Currambena Garden

Vegetable garden

A great start to our new garden with lots of lettuce (happily eaten) a good crop of potatoes and silver beet. Many thanks to the parents who have brought in coffee grounds etc for the compost heap and many thanks to Ursula for the lawn clippings. We are in need of more garden and lawn clippings so please, please, don’t throw them away but become part of your children’s recycling efforts and bring them to the school. Our compost has been very successful this year.

We owe a great deal to Ursula Mooser for her contribution of plants and other materials to start our no-dig garden but even more, for her enthusiasm and practical help and patience in teaching our budding young gardeners. We will miss you Ursula.

We will be harvesting the silver beet but and leaving the tomatoes, pumpkins and herbs growing over the holidays. Soooooooooooooooo–

Help is needed to water the garden. You will be rewarded by: firstly in keeping the garden going and secondly in harvesting the fresh organic tomatoes and herbs. If you can spare some time to water (approx 15-20 mins) please can you contact Wendy. Times will be flexible, depending on your availability and the weather.

Laura Trip next June

We held a meeting of the organising group this morning and it really looks as if this trip is possible!! Leaving Sydney on Thursday 18th June and returning on Thursday 25th with visits to rock art at Jowalbinna, a tour of the Daintree and attendance at the Laura Dance Festival included amongst other highlights of the week, a possible optional Barrier Reef day trip… all for about $1400 per person.

We have a list of names from the noticeboard of people who are interested in coming along.  Please send an email to Tracy Everingham moresausage@optusnet.com.au to confirm your interest at this stage and be placed on the email list for further information and updates. There will come a time when we will ask for money to confirm places and meanwhile we are working on doing some fundraising to make it possible for as many of the children to come as possible.

Watch for further news!
