Dear Parents,
We had a wonderful orientation morning yesterday. Thank you to Jess and Rachel who set up the morning tea and all the other help that made it a successful morning. Thanks to Emma and Sarah from CASP who come and helped me for the morning.
We are very busy at the moment with interviews for the new teacher and the assistant. We hope to have prospective teachers coming in next week to meet the children before we make any final decisions. We have had a lot of really good applications so I think it is going to be a hard decision.
Tomorrow we are going surfing and we need more drivers so if you can help please talk to me.
Our class has prepared an item with Tony (music teacher) for the fair and they have made their own costumes and are very excited about it.
Take care

Dear Parents,
There is a great interest in caterpillars at the moment and we have read some books and everyone has chosen a moth or butterfly and are drawing the life cycle. We have discussed fiction and non fiction and recording facts.
We are exploring space and geometry in Maths, everyone is continuing to build their word skills with the spelling lists.
We have been having discussions in preparation for next year. The orientation morning is Tuesday the 25th from 9am until 11am. Everyone will get an idea of who will be in the class with them next year.
Next Thursday 27th we are going to have another experience of surfing so if anyone can help drive please talk to me.
Take care

Dear Parents,
Wow have we got a lot on this term!
Here goes:
The most exciting development is the number of children coming to my class next year. We have 16 from Pre- School and 8 from outside Currambena, with this number of children we have been doing some serious brain storming to ensure that everyone is thought about and accommodated. What we have come up with is extending my space into the staff room and share the space. We will have two groups of 18 and employ a new teacher and a part time assistant to keep a really good child:adult ratio and still maintain the essence of my class.
I hope you are all looking forward to our “Breakfast with the Artists” we are even going to have an unveiling… Breakfast will be on from 8am so we look forward to seeing you all then. We have also been creating a DVD with the help of Chris’s friend Ben and this is an on going project though we will have some of the rushes to view at the breakfast. On the door of my room is the list of publishing we may do, which you ticked when you enrolled. Can you please check to see if you still wish the same requirements, so we can eliminate any child who you don’t wish to be on the DVD. Thanks!
Friday we are off to Kinma for the day and then the social is on in the evening. Can anyone help drive us to Kinma?
On Monday afternoon we have a visit from a consultant from the AIS (Australian Independent Schools) and she is going to support us with our documentation for the Board of Studies. Would anyone be able to come and work with the children for that time – 1:30 to 2:30 -so we can get in some quality time with her. Tony (music teacher) will also be here and he will be practising the performances for the fair.
The hamper for our class is “Summer Holidays” so if you could make a contribution that would be wonderful.
Take care

Dear Parents,
Isn’t the weather crazy, on Monday we were all in the water tray (while experimenting with volume for maths) and today rain. Mumble mumble!
We have been busy producing some gorgeous work for the ‘Breakfast with the Artists’. The plan is the breakfast will start a 8am, with a buffet style set up and you will be shown around our works by your artist. There has been a date change for this event. We are now going to have it on the 13th of November not the 14th.
On Friday we are off to the Sculptures. We are going by bus, leaving here at 10am. If you can come and help it would be fantastic. The following Friday 7th we are going surfing. We need drivers so if you can help please talk to me. The next surfing date is the 27th Nov (not the 28th)
This week we have been working with our spelling lists. Practising our vowels, doing comprehension exercises and story writing.
Take care

Dear Parents,
I hope you all got the calendar that we completed on Monday, do you think we have fitted enough in !
So next Friday is the Sculpture by the Sea. We will leave here at 10am with lunch and then be back by about 2pm. If you would like to come it would be great. The following Friday the 7th is our first surfing session which was so much fun last time.
Welcome to Jagger and his family , he joined us on Monday.
This week we have been working on 2 dimension and 3 dimension as part of our work for the exhibition. We are revising/introducing vowels. Last week we started to work with ordinal numbers and writing 1st, 2nd etc, this bought up the subject of winning and losing and how we feel about these concepts. On Monday morning we had a special meeting about this and recorded our feelings are reminded each other that we play games for fun not just to win.
We will be having swimming for the rest of the term on Tuesdays. We have planned to have lessons. Some children choose to go to basketball so check with them.
Take care

It is wonderful to see everyone back and recovered from that terrible flu. Yesterday we finished up everything that we were supposed to do last term, like completing the alphabet and adding to our portfolios. Thank you so much to Susan and Rowena and Chris who took my class for the last week and made our concert performance possible and doing the clean up!
Welcome to Casey who is joining us this term.
We have already discussed what we want to study this term: We want to create an art display of our work and then invite you all to have breakfast with the artists. There has been a request to study our bodies. Learn some dancing (any volunteers?) like the waltz. We plan to go to the sculptures by the sea which is very soon so we will get back to you on a date. For PE we are booking two surfing sessions. On each Tuesday we are offering swimming and basketball.
Yesterday we looked at our reading folders and everyone now has a new one, it would be wonderful if they could read everyday and return the folders each morning. The folders go in the container at the door and after tidy up we change the readers. I am emphasising that they are the one learning to read so they need to be responsible for returning the folders and changing the reader and talking to me about what level they are on. This week we are starting some reading and spelling of sight words so a small list will come home to practise too. This is just practise and very relaxed.
Remember if you are interested in doing the Conflict Resolution course it is not too late, talk to me or Chris or Wendy. Do you know that to do this course anywhere else you would be paying up to $1200 and we are charging $350!
Take Care

Dear Parents,
Wow a lot of sick kids, we only had 9 children for the most of the week last week and I have sent two home this morning. Better now than next week with the concert! The plans and costumes are going well though practises are a bit of a struggle. Everyone is very excited about the stall today and we spent some time this morning sorting all the toys. Thank you all for the wonderful donations. After morning tea we will be making scones to sell.
On Friday we had a very special time with Bunna the whale whisperer visiting us, he sang some songs and talked to us about his affiliation with the whales and we saw snippets of the movie he was part of. We had channel seven ‘today tonight ‘filming as well, so we think that will be showing tonight. The children were all very keen to see the movie so we managed to organise to see the first viewing at Cremorne Orpheum on Thursday (tomorrow) at 12:30. We have organised a bus so we will leave here at about 11:45 and be back by 2:30. With this new development and expense I will postpone our visit to the zoo until early next term.
Remember the concert starts at 6pm SHARP and we will be on at about 6:05pm so please be at the hall by about 5:45 at the latest.
This week we have completed ‘y’ and words ending with ‘y’. We have made number charts to 30 which now have the word for the number as well. We have published a story which is on the wall and on Monday we had our project presentations which was fun.
Take care and see you all on Tuesday night

Dear Parents,
As I am writing the children are busy washing the tables and tiding the room for information morning, which is going to be in our class while we go to craft.
Our next event is the stall next Wednesday the 17th and we want to raise money for Pat Prices school in Nepal. We want to buy them some books as for a school of 200 they have 50 books. The children have discussed what we could contribute to the stall so please bring any old toys and books which we can sell. We are also going to make hot scones with jam and cream. We are also going to make a batch that we can sell to you all as you come in the gate.
This week we are finishing our projects on the animals we studied from the Aquarium, we ran out of time last week as we had our student Nicole for the day and she needed to do some lessons. We are up to ‘X’ and spelling word with ‘x’ which is reported to be very easy! In maths we are looking at number and are completing numbers to 30 around the room. We have added rhymes to go to numbers to 11 and plan to add the numeral in words to the list.
The preparations for the concert are coming along with the usual dramas break downs and tantrums (and that is just me). We are getting our costumes organised and next week we will make props and a backdrop.
Dates til the end of term: 17th The Stall. 23rd the concert. 24th Summerhill day and pyjama day. 25th excursion to the zoo. 26th tidy up. Last day. (phew)
Take care

Dear Parents,
We had a wonderful day yesterday at the Aquarium. Thank you so much to Myung Jin for coming with us. Thank you to Sue who organised it all. On Monday we all chose a creature that we wanted to study, so on Friday we are going to have a presentation of all our research and we will then know more about 15 different creatures.
The concert performance is slowly taking shape and costumes are being made. The date is now Tuesday the 23rd of September.
This week we are studying time and we have been looking at calendars and dates and how we record time. We have written about our buddies which we now have on Wednesday after one of the children made the request at School meeting. So Olivia’s class are our buddies, after a rocky start everyone now has a buddy and are content.
Our last excursion for the term is to the Zoo on the 25th of September so if you can come please talk to me.
Take care
