Julianna Term 3 Week 10

Hello Currambena!

Whew! End of term has come, I am really looking forward to less driving.

Thank-you to all the helpers at the Bush Dance. The local grapevine was telling me people had a great night.

Thank-you Sue for offering to collect our library book from Stanton Library.

Thank-you to the tree house builders.                                                                           It  is a great success and is a constant hive of activity with the kids. I have a birds eye view of all the various comings and goings from my office window so must remember to bring my camera.

Little things are happening around the school getting ready for the construction of our new building. The garden has been relocated, the green room is being completely cleared out and  timber is currently being salvaged from the top playground and reused on the tree house. We are finding all sorts of nooks and crannies for temporary storage.

 With love,

   Julianna

Preschool Newsletter Week 10 Term 3

Hello Everyone

It’s the last week of term and school starts again on Tuesday 20th October 2009. Monday 19th October is a pupil-free day but CASP is open from 8.30 am – 6.30 pm. Please book a space with Colin or one of the CASP team if you need care for your child for the day. If you need holiday care Amba is running it for 6 days during the holidays. Please put your name down for the days you require on the big noticeboard a.s.a.p. as Amba needs 8 children per day for it to be viable.

This week we have been very busy researching deafness to prepare us  for Tuesday’s Theatre of the Deaf performance, talking about what we would like to learn next term and saying goodbye to Sisse, who will be in Fran and Jo’s class next term. We have also been drawing, making lots of potions and doing P.E. We have also celebrated a lot of birthdays!

Thanks to all the people who have done our washing, come in and cleaned for our end of term clean-up and volunteered their time in preschool.

Please maintain hair checks for headlice throughout the holidays, and treat if necessary, so that the problem does not continue next term. Thanks!!

Have a happy holiday everyone!

Love from

Sue, Chris and Gabriela.

Aussie Kids… Week 10 Term 3

Dear Parents,

We have had a few changes in our plans this week so yesterday we went to the secret garden instead of Tambourine Bay. We also voted that we want to have an end of term party and a farewell for Jesse on Friday after we finish our clean up in the class. So it would be nice for the children to bring some treats to share at the park.

We are continuing to discuss and devise plans for next year with the new building being complete at the end of the first term so to help us to have a more definite idea of numbers can you please came and talk to us if you are planning to leave Currambena next year.

The holidays are  a wonderful time to get a hold of the nits  – so if everyone is vigilent we could have a nit free term!

The first adventure for next term is preparations for the concert which is on Friday the 13th of November. So we will be keeping you all informed about the plans when we have some idea.

We will be swimming again at the Greenwich Baths for our physical education so we will have more information about days and times next term.

Thank you to Robin for doing such a wonderful job in our storeroom. Thank you so much to Blair, Stuart, Jason and Stuart for coming to Coney Island with us. It was a fantastic day.  Thank you to everyone who has come and read with the children and  for washing the towels.

It has been a fantastic term and we are looking forward  to  the next one!

Take care

FRAN

Wendy’s Class Week 10 Term 3

Week 10? Where did all those weeks get to?

Our student teachers, Josh and Alyce, finish up this week and we wish them all the very best with the rest of their studies. They have both made important contributions to our learning and I am sure they will both be excellent teachers when they finish their course. We all hope they’ll come back and visit before the end of the year.

Our excursion to CSIRO on Monday was a great success. The Creative Chemistry workshop began with some seemingly magical demonstrations and then the children began working through a possible 11 different experiments set up around the room. They were all completely absorbed in this for almost 90 minutes. I did interrupt them at one stage to introduce Zac’s aunt, Emma, who is a scientist working in the Food and Nutrition branch of CSIRO. Emma told us about one of her current research projects into the effects of transportation on apples and eggs and other fresh foods. Emma is also an ex-student of Currambena and a wonderful role model for aspiring scientists in our group! ( Emma was in my first Currambena class so it was great treat for me to see her, too!)

On Tuesday, we had a performance from the Australian Theatre of the Deaf. The three actors used very entertaining mime  to tell the story of a traveller to other cultures. They were great to watch, as were the children’s faces! Fascinating to have two different theatre companies visit these two weeks.

We are now making some useful progress on our own play and, of course, rehearsal will start in earnest when we return from the holidays. Please ask your children about their costume ideas and help them if you can! The concert is just three weeks into next term.

This term I have been running a meditation group as one of the PDHPE options on Monday afternoons. It has been a very interesting time, with a range of ages of children learning and practising a variety of meditative techniques and usually including a feelings check-in and a guided visualisation at the end. Some of the children have been drawing their visualisation images… I hope one or two will make it into the Newsletter! Most of the participants have reported increased feelings of calmness and some have been using the techniques to assist them in sleeping at night.

REQUEST!!  Once again there is an ENORMOUS AMOUNT OF LOST PROPERTY  around the school. PLEASE  make sure you take it home or it might all go to St Vinnies over the break.

ANOTHER REQUEST!!  Is there anyone who would like two delightful pet rats for the holidays??? Let me know if you can help.

AND ANOTHER! Could EVERYONE please treat all hair for nits over the holidays so we can start next term nit-free!

Many thanks to Alex Golovin for doing slave duty with me this past two days! It has been fun to have his company!

And lastly, our group voted to have a party here at school on Friday afternoon. The idea is to bring a food offering themed by a time or place of your choosing. This will be after lunch, so small sized food platters would be good.

Have a great holiday everyone!   Love,   Wendy

Olivia’s Class Week 10 Term 3

Hi Everyone,

Wow it’s the end of the term already. We have had such a busy time of late, with Comedia dell ’ Arte and a visit from the Theatre of the Deaf on Tuesday and of course our visit to the observatory which was just fantastic. Thank you to all the parents who came and helped out. Thank you also to Veronica and Lisa for their ongoing assistance in the classroom.

This Friday the children have voted to have an end of term party so we will be going to either the secret garden (park near the bowling club) or another nearby park. The children decided to bring some party food: some healthy and a little bit of unhealthy. We do not need masses of food so please only little bits and pieces.

I have been told of a number of kids in the class are finding nits in the hair so please make sure you check and wash in the school holidays. It is always best if you wash again a week after the first wash to get the ones that survived the first lot or hatched since.

That’s all for now, have a gorgeous 2 weeks.  See you all on Tuesday 20th October (Co-ordination day on the Monday: care available in CASP)

From Olivia

Casp…. Term 3 Week 10

CASP

We are nearing the end of term and starting to think about the holidays and next term.

Thursday has  gradually become more and more popular and is now almost too busy. We love that CASP is so popular but wonder if children who don’t have to come to CASP on Thursday, if they could choose another day to come. This would allow the CASP staff to provide adequate supervision and also for children to continue to come at short notice to CASP on all school days.

Current CASP permanent bookings are

Monday        12

Tuesday        17

Wednesday   10

Thursday      24

Friday            9

There is a sheet with the CASP sign in folder where you can indicate your permanent days for term 4 and ask that you fill it in by the end of week 1 in term 4.

Amba is running holiday care again this holidays and there are sheets on the main notice board where you can write your child’s name for these days.

Similarly the first Monday for term 4 is Coordination Day for the teachers but CASP will be running on that day from 8:30 to 6:30 if you need it.

We are pleased to have Celia join our staff this term. Celia is studying education at Sydney University and has settled into Currambena and CASP very quickly.

We hope you all have safe and  happy holidays and look forward to seeing everyone again next term.

Love from CASP team

Colin, Sarah, Rowena, Michael, Callum and Celia.
