Hi All,
Our Development Application is still with Lane Cove Council but we anticipating the matter will be finalized very shortly – perhaps within a week or so. We will then be progressing to the tender process so that we can engage a construction company. We are still hoping we may be able to start the project in the October school holidays – although the timing is very tight.
Speak to Aarhon Silver if you want to put some maintenance hours towards helping her clear out to old classroom – I’m sure she would welcome the help.
Our community consultation for our Landscape master plan is on 31st August from 7pm to 9pm. Please come along for a productive discussion on our playground and the vision for the school. This is your chance to give us your ideas about the bike rack, the play equipment, the basketball court, the vegetable garden, the vegetation, the trees, what’s missing? What we need to keep?…..
If you could please RSVP on my email or catch me around the playground and let me know your coming.
Have a great week.
Jess

Hi everyone!
This is a brief we’re-in-interviews-and-constantly-writing-evaluations newsletter entry:
- We’re really enjoying the opportunity presented by the interviews that allow us to speak to you all at greater length than the usual stolen moments. Please sign up for an interview if you haven’t already done so.
- On Monday the 24th August we will be holding the ‘Preparing for Kindergarten’ evening at 7pm. This is not just for anyone coming to our class next year but will also be useful for people going to kindergarten elsewhere, so let your friends know. Flyers are available outside our classroom.
- We have been working on the letter s, blends ‘tr’ and ’sp’, syllables and sentence starters (e.g. Once upon a time…). In maths we have gathered data and graphed several different variables in our classroom.
Back to the evaluations…
Cheers,
Fran, Jo and Sarah

Hello Everyone
Welcome to Max and Josie and their families.
Today is Information Morning and Bec is coming in to play and weave her special magic through preschool. Later on Hari’s aunt is coming to read stories in Greek with puppets. Last week Steve and Lucy brought in their fire pit and we made a fire. We tried toasting bread and marshmallows. Today Jenny and Josh are planning on visiting Reverse Garbage for some paper and other supplies. Last week Elizabeth went to Reverse Garbage for us as well. It’s wonderful to have such fantastic support and we appreciate all the sweeping, cleaning, washing, building planning, library tidying and chicken caring that happens behind the scenes as well. Thank you!!
This week we have been exploring shapes. We have some beautiful wooden solid shapes as well as flat shapes, books and pictures. In Group Time we have been doing activities to aid in the understanding, naming and recognition of shapes. We have also been looking at a book on the Gee’s Bend quilts in America and making shape collages. In Craft tomorrow we will look at the beauty of shapes and look at Kandinsky’s work.
On Friday (this Friday 14th August) we will be going to the Crows Nest Fire Station. We have prepared a list of questions to ask the firefighters. The children who attend on a Friday will be travelling by private car (either with a teacher or a parent). We will be leaving at 9.30am so everyone needs to be at school by 9.15am. We will return again at about 11.00am. There will be a permission form on the sign-on sheet on Friday morning. This must be signed for your child to go on the excursion.
Last week Karen put a questionnaire in each child’s locker. Please fill it in and return to Julianna or Sue. The RSVP for Fran’s “Preparation for Kindergarten Night” is at the end of the questionnaire. This evening is the opportunity for you to talk to Fran and other parents about preparing your child for kindergarten. It is open to everyone, not just families with children going to kindergarten, and not just for Currambena families. There are flyers outside preschool for you to take to give to friends. This event will be held on Monday 24th August 2009 at 7.00pm. There will be childminding available in preschool with some of the CASP team. Last year’s night was fantastic, so don’t miss it!!
We have begun our whole school planning for 2010. There is a list of the days for next year up on the window above the sign-on sheet. Please choose the days you would like your child to attend next year. This applies to current preschool parents and also families in the primary school with siblings coming to preschool next year. Come and secure your days now! If your child will not be attending preschool in 2010 please come and tell me. We need to know if children will be going to Fran’s or to another school or preschool. Once everyone has chosen their days I will be offering places to people on the waiting list.
Lastly, we need someone who loves attending to detail to sort out puzzles and put all the stray pieces back where they belong. If you think you’d like to do this come and speak to one of us.
Love from
Sue, Chris and Gabriela.

There are many very important things happening at the moment, among them Parent Interviews. Thank you to everyone who has signed up for a time already. Please speak to me if you have trouble finding a suitable time.
Thanks also to the people who worked on saving the trees from the encrouching tanbark at the weekend, and thanks also to those who came to our Laura Presentation night last night. It was good to revisit that wonderful experience and share photos and thoughts. There is certainly some enthusiasm for doing the trip again in 2011 when the next festival will be held. There is also interest in the idea of attending a dance festival in Moree in September, the first to be held in NSW since 1938! The details of this are in this Newsletter. Because this event is so soon, families who want to go should contact the organisers and make their own arrangements.
Several of the children have written about the new pets in our room. I hope you will read all about them.
Also, I have made the booking for Jervis Bay at the end of the year for the week commencing Monday 30th November. This is our week long end of year camp so please put it in your diaries!
With Parent Interviews most days, please make sure that children check the time for their piano lesson is not taken for an interview.
That’s all for today. Have a good week.
Love, Wendy
RATS!!
Wendy’s class now has rats in their class so you need to be quiet and do NOT put your fingers through the gaps or they will bite you and we will have to get rid of them. Only Wendy’s class can open the cage. Wash your hands before and after you hold the rats and also you have to ask Wendy and one of Wendy’s class has to get it out. Use two hands to hold them. Always keep the cage closed. Only hold one at a time. The rats’ names are Ellie and Sooty and you can play with them. By Lillie . picture to go near this please Tracey…!!
In our class we just got some pet rats and we have some class agreements. You can come in our classroom to have a look at the agreements if you want. The rats have personalities, like Ellie is known for being very adventurous, but quiet at the same time, she is brown with white near her tail, and Sooty is also known for being adventurous, and she also loves her food, she looks a lot like a dirty chimney sweep covered in soot, that’s probably why she is called Sooty. By Holly .
Wendy’s class have now got pet rats! There is, Ellie, and Sooty. There are some agreements for the rats. First of all you have to be quiet. Rats are nocturnal and are not used to such loud noises. EspeciallyEllie. If you want to hold them, you have to ask Wendy first. You MUST WASH HANDS before AND after handling. ONLY Wendy’s class can take the rats out of there cage. ONLY hold one rat at a time. Hold the rats GENTLY and you must always hold them on you. Be sensible with them. If you are scared of holding them, it would be best NOT to hold them. Make sure you share rat time. ALWAYS keep rat cage closed! Use two hands to pick them up. Sit downwhile holding. That’s about it! Enjoy the rats! By Jody

Hi Everyone,
Wow this term is flying by so far. It’s been great to catch up with all the families in the mid-year interviews. A reminder to everyone that if you haven’t already booked a time to see me, please look on our front door for the times left. It is quite important that we catch up at some time so that we can share information about your child and what is happening in the classroom. For all people who want to know about our new contract system, the interviews are a great way to talk about this as well.
We are just about to finish up our topics of fraction/ decimals as well as literary/ factual descriptions in English. New Personal Interest projects are underway and our whole class theme of information and communication has sparked some interest in a whole range of communication modes.
A few requests: If anyone has any old mobile/ landline phones that they don’t need anymore, we would love to use them at school for dismantling and having a look at the insides. Also, our white chair is looking rather grubby at the moment and we need a cover for it. I don’t think many shop bought covers would fit the rather unusual shape of the chair and it might require one sewn especially for it. Please let me know if you are able to do this.
That’s all for now, have a good week!
From Olivia
