Hi all!
We’re having trouble comprehending that it is week six already. Our classroom continues to evolve and it’s exciting to see the ever increasing skills and independence in work habits. We have been looking at chance and area in maths as well as addition and subtraction. In English alphabet work continues for the younger kids and blend studies for the older kids. We have all been terribly excited about exclamation marks and have used this as an opportunity to have a good yell. It has also been important lately to spend quite a bit of time discussing various issues that have arisen in the classroom and beyond, from respect for belongings to what makes a good friend and how to deal with conflict. If you haven’t yet done so, have a look at the ‘I statements’ that are on the wall in the purple room. Many of the drawings give a brilliant indication of the clear (and suitably cranky) body language that is being used throughout the school.
Thanks to the parents who continue to read with kids on Friday afternoon. It’s brilliant that the kids have a different opportunity to increase their confidence in reading and we’re glad to have parents braving the frequently noisy classroom to make this happen.
We intend to revive the practice of writing minutes from School Meeting and including them in the newsletter. Until then, an important recent decision that has been made is the locking of the Spare Room (where we hold school meeting). It was decided at School Meeting that the space should be locked and students request entry after we found that the space and equipment stored there was not being respected. We’re disappointed that this action has been taken and are hoping that another solution will soon be possible. For now though, if you need to open the Spare Room at all (for playgroup, meeting etc.) it would be great if you could re-lock it afterwards.
This Thursday night we have our AGM at 6pm. We do need quite a few people to attend to ensure we have sufficient numbers for votes etc. If you are able, we would be grateful for your attendance. Please bring hot soup and bread to share as a community meal for what will no doubt be another chilly night.
Hope you enjoy the long weekend!
Jo
