Preschool Newsletter Week 4 Term 1 2009

Hello Everyone

Well it’s Week 4 already and children are still settling in. We have been doing collage this week, making pikelets, talking about friendships amongst the older group, getting to know each other a bit better and conducting some science experiments to do with insects.

Thanks for coming to the Information Night last week and sharing your stories of your first days of school. These are up on the wall in preschool. Come and read them, and add your own if you were not able to attend the evening. We will be putting them into your child’s journal later on.

Two things came out of the evening – firstly as we are a community we are all responsible for the children who attend Currambena. So if you see a child who you think needs help of any description, talk to them or get one of the teachers.

Secondly, we keep a journal for each child. In this we write in our observations, individual and group discussions and also stick in photos, paintings and drawings. These are our professional observations, required for our records, but we have chosen to create an authentic document that is meaningful to us and the children and families who come to Currambena. We describe each child’s progress, their challenges, their development in all domains and their friendships. We track this over the course of the child’s time in preschool. Sometimes we write things that may be difficult, but this is all part of real life, and tracks the child’s growth and development. We welcome each family’s input as well. You are free to come in and read your child’s journal, borrow it and add to it whenever you like. However, please bring it back promptly as we need to keep updating them.

The “Welcome Breakfast Social” is on this Friday 27th February 2009, from 7.30 am – 9.30 am. See Payman (Avah’s mum) if you can help with the BBQ.

It is Information Morning next Wednesday 4th March 2009. Please tell any friends who you think may like to come.

Chris, Wendy and Fran are holding a Conflict Resolution Revival Course for anyone who has done the course and wants to refresh their skills on 7th March 2009. See Chris, Wendy or Fran if you would like to do the course and see the flyer in this newsletter for details.

We have been offered a boat by Luke and Julia’s grandfather, Steve Johnston, It needs a bit of work to make it suitable for preschoolers to play in. It needs new seats and the wooden surround repaired. If you are able to do this please see one of us. See the photo in the newsletter. Thanks!!

Love from

Sue, Chris and Gabriela.
