Wendy’s Class Term 3 Week 4

Thank you very much to Mike and Lisa for driving us to Artarmon for our excursion to the SBS radio station last Wednesday. It was an interesting event in that the engineers’ delight in their work was brilliantly evident and it was a shame that the timing was such that we had to leave before the tour of the studios and satellite dishes… we did manage to have some very tasty afternoon tea first, though!

Also last week, we had another very successful Information Morning. Thank you very much to the parents who assisted. And thank you to the children who helped my Sasha to have such a wonderful (and exhausting) morning at school on Thursday during Summerhill Day.

This week we are seriously working on our play for the end of term. I don’t think we have a definite date for the concert yet but we certainly have a heap of ideas for the play!! The brainstorm is a very useful creative tool for a group!!
We are also working on measuring length, area and volume in Maths and drafting paragraphs for the new round of Personal Interest Projects. Spelling, grammar, handwriting, comprehension and creative writing are all on this week’s agenda in English.

On Monday, we had a visit from Kristin from World Vision who helped us run a workshop to learn about child labour in India, the target for this year’s 40 Hour Famine fund-raising. the Famine is being held this week so the children who want to participate are hurriedly asking for sponsorship. I know this is hard on the heels of the MS Readathon (sorry about that!) but it is another extremely good cause. Each child is deciding what they will give up… 8 hours food or 40 hours of something else, like screen time or furniture!

Yesterday, we received an email from Emma (who left at the end of last term) from Amsterdam saying that she and Helen and Brendan are all settling in well and enjoying riding their bikes around the countryside. She hasn’t begun school yet because they are still having summer holidays. We will write a reply to her today.

I hope you all have a good week.

With love, Wendy
