Preschool Newsletter Week 10 Term 2

Hello Everyone

It’s the last week of the term. Friday 4th July 2008 is the last day. School re-opens on Monday 21st July. This is a pupil-free day but CASP will be open from 8.30 am - 6.30 pm. Please speak to Colin if your child needs care that day. Preschool will be open for children on Tuesday 22nd July.

There is a list of cleaning jobs up on the glass doors for our end of the term clean-up. Please come and do some cleaning and work off your Maintenance Hours.

This week we have had a Hairdressing Salon in preschool after some children showed an interest in doing hair styles last week. We thought of all that we would need to make a hairdressing salon in preschool and then made one behind the fish tank. The salon has been fully booked all of this week, with washing, combing and styling! The children have made a comprehensive list of all a hairdressing salon needs, and the services it offers.

There is also a doctor’s surgery/hospital in preschool with lots of talk about medical matters and consulting books. Quite a few patients have needed treatment. Yesterday we also chopped vegetables and made Vegetable and Pasta Soup. We have also been asking the children what they would like to learn about next term. A very oceanic, aquatic project seems to be developing! We are planning an excursion to the Aquarium as well.

In Group time we have been talking about what happens when you go to the doctor and drawing pictures about our knowledge and experiences. The other group of children has been looking at Japanese research on the effect of different emotive words on water droplet crystals. We have been extrapolating those results to our own bodies, which are comprised of 75% water, and thinking of the effect of unkind and unfriendly words on our bodies.

We also have Isobel Golovin doing her Duke of Edinburgh volunteering experience in preschool for this week. Isobel spent all of her preschool and primary years at Currambena and the children are really enjoying playing, talking and solving problems with her.

Lyn Slevin-Daly will be doing work in the library in the first week of Term 3. Please ring her on 0424555233 if you can help.

Thanks to Lisa and Roxy for sharing the craft they learnt while in Japan earlier this term with preschool. The children had the opportunity to make little mice and one rat out of newspaper, little squares of fabric and glue.

Well, that’s it for this term. Have a very happy holiday, everyone!

Love from The Preschool Gang - Sue, Chris and Soojin.
