Wendy’s Class Week 8 Term 2

Hi everyone! Things are certainly happening quickly at the moment and the weeks are simply flying by. Today I faxed off the final details for our Canberra trip and next week we will start discussing the significance of some of the places and things we are going to see. A few of the children are unwell this week, which is a bit of a worry, but I hope they will all be well recovered by the time we leave! Thank you to those who have sent in the money already.

Our last two weeks have been so very busy that we are only just getting to finish our Personal Project Presentations today. We will be discussing the parameters for the next mini project which will have a much wider choice of format.

The Jump Rope for Heart demonstration was very enthusiastically received last week… thank you to Olivia for organising that. Perhaps unfortunately, the fundraising for this overlaps with the MS Readathon and then the 40 Hour Famine/8 Hour Challenge is early next term. Lots of activity!

Boori, on Monday this week, worked with story-telling and drama in each class and the end of the day productions were colourful and fun! Our group is also working on some brief dramatic pieces about convict life with Charlie, who finishes up her prac at Currambena this week. We have all enjoyed having her with us and hope she will return to visit when she can.

Other dates to remember:

  • Monday 23rd 7:30pm Transition to High School meeting
  • Tuesday 24th Waste Watchers program for the kids called Catchment Chronicles
  • Wednesday 25th 8:30am Laura Meeting for the next stage of planning
  • Thursday 26th PE try outs for next term’s options + Jump Off for Heart Foundation
  • Monday 30th whole school visit to Kinma for the day… drivers needed please!!
  • Tuesday 1st July 7:30 AM leave for Canberra
  • Thursday 3rd July 7:30 PM return to school
  • Friday 4th July Mobile Muster… BRING IN YOUR OLD MOBILE PHONES FOR RECYCLING!

This will also be the last day at Currambena for Benjamin and for Emma who are both moving overseas, Benjamin and his family back home to the US and Emma and her family to Amsterdam. So you can see how very full our next few weeks are!! In spite of this, I am going to try to get some of our Parent Interviews completed next week… the timetable will be on the door this morning.

PIANO STUDENTS! PLEASE CHECK THE DAY BEFORE TO SEE WHETHER OR NOT YOUR LESSON TIME HAS BEEN TAKEN WITH AN INTERVIEW. Interviews not held next week will take place early next term.

In our more academic work we are completing the unit on Fractions, Decimals and Percentages, working on grammar, spelling and comprehension skills and continuing to learn about the early white settlement in NSW.

Charlie’s short film about Currambena, which she is making to show to her student peers at Sturt Uni when she returns, will be shown on Friday!

I hope you are all having weeks just as interesting and exciting as ours!! Oh and thank you so very much to the wonderful people who came and swept and tidied the school playground over the weekend. It looks fantastic now. Your efforts are greatly appreciated.

With love, Wendy
